De Nada Nirvana - Background

By the time I started writing my third book, De Nada Nirvana, I was well and truly committed to my Nirvana ‘family’. I decided to write in the third person this time. That way I had the opportunity to follow the action backwards and forwards between Jo on the Costa del Sol and Jen and her fellow co-op members back in London (see synopsis).

As soon as the book was completed, I started looking for an agent. Although I knew I had been incredibly fortunate to have had my first two books picked up directly by a publisher, I felt I really needed to have someone specifically fighting my corner for me – especially when it came to pushing the subsidiary rights – translations, film and tv etc.

So I was hugely relieved when David Grossman agreed to represent me. David is very highly respected in the publishing world. Among his many clients the best known is probably Andrea Levy, author of Small Island and the winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction, the Whitbread Book of the Year and the Commonwealth Writer’s prize.

When I finished De Nada Nirvana, I felt I should probably move away from Nirvana and let the first three books stand as a trilogy, but David convinced me to carry on with the series. Since his reason was that he saw the books as ideal for adaptation as a tv series, he didn’t have to work too hard to persuade me!

At this point, he is currently looking for a deal for both De Nada Nirvana and my fourth book, Me, John and a Bomb.
